    The second annual Newport Beach Food & Wine Festival will take place May 27 -29, 2005 at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort in the heart of Newport Beach. This three-day celebration brings some of the world’s finest chefs together with renowned sommeliers to create an extraordinary experience for food and wine enthusiasts. Included among the signature events are a Pinot Noir Tasting, a Seafood Celebration on the Bay; a Grand Tasting featuring more than 50 of the world’s finest wine makers; and a spectacular Champagne Brunch, to name just a few. A Silent Auction, featuring extraordinary wines and spectacular artwork, will benefit the Balboa Bay Club’s 1221 Club Scholarship Fund.

    Renowned chefs, culinary experts and sommeliers from all over the world are scheduled to participate. The Balboa Bay Club & Resort culinary team, including Executive Chef Josef Lageder and Food & Beverage Director Dieter Hissin, will preside over the events.

    Ticket prices vary from $65.00 to $110.00 according to the individual event, with Balboa Bay Club member discounts available.

    Pinot Noir Tasting, California and Oregon vs. Burgundy

    The Pinot Noir grape is one of the most difficult grapes to make into wine. Some winemakers will acknowledge that it is the single greatest challenge of their careers to learn the technique of producing a great pinot noir and tap into it's full potential.
    Join several Master Sommeliers in comparing the best Pinot Noirs from California and Oregon versus the great reds from Burgundy. Participants will judge similarities and contrasts between the wines of the two regions.

    Seafood Celebration on the Bay with wines from around the World

    Bouillabaisse and Cioppino, fresh oysters from around the world, steamed lobster from Maine, local mussels, smoked fish from the islands and much more will make this evening the culinary celebration of maritime enticements. Andrew Davis, Owner of the Carlsbad Aquafarm and Oyster expert Matthew James join Executive Chef Josef Lageder in preparing the many tastes that will be offered tonight.
    Enjoy some great wines from around the world to complete a gastronomical experience like no other.

    Michel Chapoutier, Rhone Wine Luncheon

    In the past, Rhone wines were overlooked or viewed as good country wines. In the late 1980's the reputation changed completely and today wines of top producers are every bit as good as First Groth Claret and top burgundies.
    Master sommelier Damon Ornowski will present the wines of M. Chapoutier from some of Rhone's finest appellations along with French chefs Yvon Goetz, Dominique Briarre and Jean-Marc Weber will prepare a daytime feast reflecting their native country.

    The Marriage of Cheese & Wine

    Renowned as one of the cheese world's living legends for his expertise, insight and passion, Max McCalman is dedicated to helping others understand and enjoy the unique pleasures of artisanal cheeses.
    Mr. McCalman, maitre fromager of New York City's famed Picholine and Artisanal restaurants and Author of the Cheese Plate, leads this seminar on cheese and the proper pairing of wine.

    Bordeaux Blend from around the World

    Bordeaux's are traditionally made from a blend of up to five grape varieties. The wines are complex and concentrated, and many of them are considered among the best wines of the world. Winemaker in other countries took up the challenge to produce Bordeaux style blends that rival their French counterparts.
    Join our Master Sommeliers in a tasting of 12, of these magnificent wines, some from Bordeaux and some from other renowned wine areas of the world.

    5:00 PM to 6:30 PM $ 70.00

    Grand Tasting in the Grand Ballroom

    Experience an enticing evening showcasing over 50 of the world's finest wineries and the culinary creations of the Chef's of the Balboa Bay Club & Resort. A silent Auction of large wine bottles and the signature festival painting by artist Michael Bryan will benefit the The Balboa Bay Club's own 1221 Club Scholarship Fund.

    Taste some of the best Champagnes of the world in an elegant waterfront setting.
