The
second annual Newport Beach Food &
Wine Festival will take place May
27 -29, 2005 at the Balboa Bay Club
and Resort in the heart of Newport
Beach. This three-day celebration
brings some of the world’s finest
chefs together with renowned sommeliers
to create an extraordinary experience
for food and wine enthusiasts. Included
among the signature events are a Pinot
Noir Tasting, a Seafood Celebration
on the Bay; a Grand Tasting featuring
more than 50 of the world’s
finest wine makers; and a spectacular
Champagne Brunch, to name just a few.
A Silent Auction, featuring extraordinary
wines and spectacular artwork, will
benefit the Balboa Bay Club’s
1221 Club Scholarship Fund.
Renowned chefs, culinary experts
and sommeliers from all over the
world are scheduled to participate.
The Balboa Bay Club & Resort
culinary team, including Executive
Chef Josef Lageder and Food &
Beverage Director Dieter Hissin,
will preside over the events.
Ticket
prices vary from $65.00 to $110.00
according to the individual event,
with Balboa Bay Club member discounts

Pinot Noir Tasting, California
and Oregon vs. Burgundy
The Pinot Noir grape is one of
the most difficult grapes to make
into wine. Some winemakers will
acknowledge that it is the single
greatest challenge of their careers
to learn the technique of producing
a great pinot noir and tap into
it's full potential.
Join several Master Sommeliers in
comparing the best Pinot Noirs from
California and Oregon versus the
great reds from Burgundy. Participants
will judge similarities and contrasts
between the wines of the two regions.

or viewed as good country wines.
In the late 1980's the reputation
changed completely and today wines

Master sommelier Damon Ornowski
will present the wines of M. Chapoutier
from some of Rhone's finest appellations
along with French chefs Yvon Goetz,
Dominique Briarre and Jean-Marc
Weber will prepare a daytime feast
reflecting their native country.
