Balboa Bay Club in 1967

Experience the Historical Charm of Newport Beach

For more than 60 years, The Balboa Bay Club has epitomized Southern California’s casually elegant lifestyle. The Club is located on 15 acres overlooking the Newport Bay and its prestigious harbor, which was developed in the early 1900s. A mix of both natural estuaries and man-made inlets, Newport Harbor contains several artificial islands, including the iconic Balboa Island, which is dotted with private homes and accessible only by a two-lane bridge and ferry boat.

Reflecting the quaint charm of its surroundings, The Balboa Bay Club was founded in 1948 to offer families a refined setting to enjoy Southern California’s sea, sand, and sun. The Club has attracted luminaries from all walks of life seeking an informal, family-centric atmosphere. Past visitors have included Humphrey Bogart, Robert Wagner, Lauren Bacall, Natalie Wood, John Travolta, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carey, and Russell Simmons. Our harborfront bar, Duke’s Place, was even named after John Wayne, who was on the board of governors.

The renowned resort, which was developed in 2003, has hosted numerous high-profile business and social gatherings, complete with all the special amenities and services that a private club can offer. The Balboa Bay Club defines Newport Beach living at its best.
